another week down, but another week closer to getting into something i don't have a clue about! i feel like i've been around kids my entire life. i've babysat, i've had younger brothers, and i've always kinda clinged to kids in social situations. now though, as i get closer to my due date and WAY bigger i'm starting to realize i have NO idea what i'm getting into! i mean as if marriage hasn't made me face all my selfishness and self seeking ways, now i'm going to have a human life depending on EVERY move i make. i'm seriously not complaining, i'm just realizing this all in the last few days. then i think that probably every other first time mama out there has been in my situation. maybe not exact, but somewhere close to it. so that makes me feel better, i mean people have been doing this for billions of years right? jk, thousands! i'm sure i'll make it. i'm sure it'll be just as stunning as marriage was/is:)

the last 3 days have found us painting the rental house which i lovingly refer to as the shack. we found some days were the weather would be good enough to turn off the heat for a couple of days and have all the windows open. yesterday it was 72! it's amazing what a little paint can do to some walls!

wednesday we went to register at the hospital. first we took the tour a couple of weeks ago then she scheduled us for a registration appointment. the lady that we took both the tour with and made the appt with is CRAZY! the only way i can explain it is a person that has had about 50 shots of espresso! seriously! from her laugh to the way she kept obsessively putting on antibacterial lotion. anyways, we're registered. our kiddo will get the eye ointment (after an hour), have a hearing test, get some kind of vitamin k shot, but as for the hepatitis shot.... dave's gotta research that one out before he'll sign to that. and he's declared that he will NOT cut the cord, simply because he thinks it's dumb and too traditional..lol... sounds like my davey:)

he also DOES NOT think samuel needs his own room.... now the nesting part of me is struggling with this crazy thought of his with every bone in my body. he about freaked out when i told him i wanted a changing table. i might agree, BUT almost every crib on craigslist comes with a changing table already... and it's a bonus cause you can put all kinds of stuff on the thing. however, he's barely going for the idea of a crib! he asked why we couldn't just put a blanket on the floor and lay him down on that.... o Lord, someone please help me. i was trying to figure out if he was serious or just trying to make me laugh... i about peed my pants! but, i think i concluded that he was serious. he was pretty adamant about it! this is when i pretty much did pee my pants, i told him to call him mom so she could talk some sense into him and he said "NO, way... she'll just say what youre saying"

fun fun fun:) naked 35 week, 2 day belly... joy to the world!

A blanket on the floor? And what is he going to do when Samuel becomes mobile? Hope that he doesn't decide to go and chew on a lamp cord (yes, babies will do this) while you and Dave are asleep at night?

And if you want a changing table, but Dave doesn't, tell him that he can get down on the floor 8-10 times a day to change the diapers. Once his back protests, he might be willing to get a changing table.

Dave's got a lot to learn for sure..Tell him to get a blanket and sleep on the floor too and see how he likes it!jk..

OK guys, let's stop picking on my brother now. :) I do have to say I don't understand why you would want the baby in the same room with you if you had another room to put him in.

Cute belly! :)

Ahhh....in Dave's defense...changing tables are nice, and we do use ours when the baby is little, but after a few months...nope, I do all of my baby diaper changing on the floor in the living room. Who has time to walk all the way back to the bedroom (especially with another kid around.) =) That is my confession. My kids get changed on the floor in my living room...all the time. So, watch where ya sit next time you are over! =)

The crib though...yeah, that is a WHOLE different story! Kids need cribs.

Love reading your blog...so funny!

As for the marriage and learning about your own selfishness, etc. Yeah, having kids TOTALLY takes the cake on that. You learn some of that with marriage, but with kids...WHOA! Be prepared to be smacked in the face with how selfish you can be. =) It is all good though. God uses it to work out a lot of kinks our lives...and that is a wonderful thing. Funny thing is that, at least for me, I get hit in the face with my own selfishness with each baby I have...not just the first. There just always seems to be more flesh and self...guess that is part of the whole learning to die daily. =)

You are going to do awesome! No fear...just faith! Sanctification is a good thing! =)

Amen Amber about the sanctification issue! whew!

we don't have a changing table with abi, but we do have a short dresser with a changing pad on top. it's a space saver and plus you can use the dresser. i'm with amber, i only used it for abi's first few months and now i change her all over the house. but i seem to remember there being times when there would be yuck shooting everywhere when she was a newborn. it's nicer to clean it off of a changing pad than off the floor/bed/etc. jon likes it cuz he has minor back problems and doesn't like to bend over to change her. you guys will come up with your own system and it will be perfect for your family :) dave'll be the last to conform to anything ridiculous (like some of the gizmos they sell nowadays) but i'd stick with the tried and true crib :)(keeps baby out of the draft, and the creepy crawlies off the face...)

you're going to be a great mom, and you know how I know? because of all the women in the world, God chose YOU to be Samuel's mom. there's no greater compliment that God can give!
